Cover images

How article cover images are generated, what they cost, Regenerate and Retry, error messages, the daily limit and turning images off.

When Generate images for my articles is on in Brand DNA, every article gets a cover image generated along with it, in the Image style you picked — Clean & Minimal, Photorealistic, Watercolor or 3D Render — plus any Custom image instruction you added.

What it costs

  • The cover that comes with a new article is included in the article's price — it costs nothing extra.
  • The first manual cover on an article that doesn't have one yet is also free — look for Add cover · free / Generate.
  • Regenerating a cover that already exists costs 200 credits each time.

Regenerate and Retry

In the editor's SEO Settings panel:

  • Generate appears when there's no cover yet.
  • Regenerate replaces an existing cover (200 credits).
  • Retry appears instead, in place of Regenerate, when the last attempt failed — it tries again at the same price as a fresh generation.

A cover takes a little while to render; the editor shows its progress while it works.

If a cover fails

The featured-image box shows the reason in place of the image:

MessageWhat it means
"The image service is busy right now — try regenerating in a moment."High demand — wait a minute and try again.
"Image generation timed out — try regenerating."The render took too long — try again.
"The cover was generated but couldn't be saved — try regenerating."The image was made but the save failed — try again.
"Image generation is temporarily unavailable on our side — please try again later."A problem on our side, not yours — try again later.
"Image generation isn't configured…"A setup issue on our side — contact support if it persists.

Limit

Up to 20 cover generations per account per day. Past that, Regenerate and Retry wait until the next day.

Turning images off

Turn off Generate images for my articles in Brand DNA → Images to stop new articles from getting a cover automatically. You can still add one by hand later from the editor — the first one stays free.
